PINCH GETS SPAUNY

dBay AUCTION
AUCTION ENDED: 17 JULY 2007 22:00BST

Just wanted to let you lot know that from now on, I will be playing Spaun Drums on everything I do with The Damned.

I'm blown away to be part of this amazing company that is building easily the best sounding and looking kits available today. Based in Chino, CA, I first discovered them at the NAMM show in Anaheim 3 years ago, and when I plucked up the courage to have a bash, I found that theirs was the sound I had been looking for, for years. The drums I played were their Hybrid series, which consist of an acrylic drum centre and maple outers. This gives the drum a loud whump from the acrylic, but still displays all the warmth of a wood shell.

Being somewhat vertically challenged, I had been looking for drums that have a huge depth of tone, but are not the size of Monty's ego. The Spauns delivered all this and more, and I was smitten.

Now, after keeping a beady eye on the company, and revisiting their booth at NAMM for the last 2 years, I am pleased to say they are making my dream drumset, which will be ready to go in September.

In the meantime, I will be using one of the kits they have in the UK on the upcoming Damned European dates, and to tell you the truth... I'm a little bit excited!

Go to www.Spaundrums.com to ogle their amazing handywork. And while you're there, check out their Myspace page and Youtube links, where you can find out a lot more about them.

What this means to you lot, (who probably don't give a tinkers cuss what I play as long as it`s noisy), is that there's gonna be another D-Bay auction for my current Damned setup.

Yes, the one that has been launched offstage a few too many times (but miraculously come through unscathed).
Yes, the one bought for the first U.S tour when I joined in 99.
Yes, the one that`s in all the studio pics from the Grave Disorder studio sessions.
Yes, the one that I had professionally re-covered in Dark Abalone (for an absolute fortune, I can tell ya!)
Yes, the one that was used on both MGE25 DVD and the recent 100 club CD.

Chances are, if you've been to a Damned show in the UK or The States in the last 8 years, you have seen or heard this kit.

Now for the boring bit (or the best bit , if you`re a drummer).

THE AUCTION...

What you will get is a Pearl Masters Studio kit (Birch, recording series). The drums (and lot numbers) are as follows:

CLICK PHOTO TO ENLARGE
#1 22x18 kick drum (Virgin-no mount)
#2 10x8 rack tom (Pearl ISS mount)
#3 12x9 rack tom (Pearl ISS mount)
#4 14x11 rack/floor (Pearl Optimount)
#5 14x14 floor (w/legs) This drum is not a Pearl Masters, rather, an older mahogany drum that I got for its particular depth of tone.

I will also include the custom Damned logo head I made for the kick drum. Each drum will also be signed by the whole band.

All the heads on the kit were changed for the 100 Club show, so this thing sounds amazing.

I know a few of you were peeved that the last drumset went for a fairly high price, but hey, you got to drink the profits, right!

Not sure if the best way to do this is by individual drum, or the whole shebang, so I'm gonna list them separately for now, unless I get a silly offer for the whole thing.

You can post your bids the same way as last time (see below for info).

Winning UK bidders can either pay postage or pick up the drums at Bilston, where the winner - or winners - will get right royally VIP'd up on The Damned dime, including pics with your purchases, drinks from our rider and an invite to the traditional Curry Knees up afterwards. (I would offer accommodation, but you bastards always beat us to it!!!!!!) Or, if you can't make Bilston - one of the other gigs.

International bidders will have the drums shipped at cheapest rates we can find.

Get bidding you tightwads, and see you at The Damned's Summer Psych Out.
