Great
night and great music at the Manor Quay in Sunderland.
Did not make the 2pm start due to a bit of beer tasting in town, instead
me and my mate got there about 5.30 as the Vibrators were on,
havent seen them for years and did not actually realise who they were
at first, sound and look very different, the place was starting to
fill up and the band seemed to go down ok.
Had a wander round the venue, lots of friendly staff busy behind the
bar and the burger counter, decent enough prices and all in all a
good venue, space to chill upstairs on the balcony and one bar full
of bands stalls with T-shirts aplenty, apart from the Damned's that
is, for some reason their stall was next to the main bar, and it wasnt
going down well if you leaned over to look at stuff with a pint in
your hand, which was hard not to do having just been served and with
a crowd waiting to get served behind you , not much on there to buy
either, that was my only moan of the evening.
Next on stage were the UK Subs, more people dancing about and
they have a loyal following who were getting well into the swing,
sounded ok too .
There followed Peter And The Test Tube Babies on stage, sorry
but to me they sounded terrible so I hope you have a day job lads,
went to the bar until they finished.
Penetration were next, thought they were exellent and the crowd
loved them, good sound and vocals were great. Must try to see more
of them in the future.
The Damned were last up, and they were superb! I was at the front
barrier which aint the best spot for sound but it was great!
Crowd all getting well into things, good banter from the band and
some class Monty dancing, who did not have much space for his kit
on stage so now and then would appear up front leaping about!
The night's playlist was:
Nasty
Disco Man
Little Miss Disaster
Noise Noise Noise
Alone Again Or
Neat Neat Neat
Smash It Up
Curtain Call
Eloise
I Fall
Born To Kill
Melody Lee
Wait For The Blackout
Second Time Around
Love Song
History Of The World
Ignite
New Rose
I remember Jet Boy Jet Girl near the end (I think) still a
bit fuzzy after last night. My favorite on the night was Curtain
Call and the new Little Miss Disaster fitted in very well.
Had a great night, and waiting for next time,
Neil T.
