DURHAM - DUNELM HOUSE
Saturday 2nd December 2006

Unfortunately I missed the support bands (Holy Racket and Teasing Lulu) due to the fact that I had been sitting in a pub down the road and left it a bit late to leave (and because of the huge queues at the bar inside the venue... they don't notice short arses like me!)

I read some reviews of previous gigs on the tour on the Message Board, and had read that The Damned had a new backdrop, which I was looking forward to seeing...

I got myself a nice spot in the crowd and with a loud bang of thunder their backdrop came to life (classic black & white silent horror/sci-fi movie clips - Nosferatu; Plan 9 From Outer Space; Metropolis etc) and The Damned took to the stage one by one. Amazing entrance!

I can't remember the entire setlist, but I can remember hearing a fantastic Rabid (Over You) and Alone Again Or (complete with Dave and Captain "parping" the trumpet bit into the microphone... I think it sounded effective!) It was great to hear two new songs too - Little Miss Disaster and Perfect Sunday.

The band played (and sung) brilliantly and the backdrop is an excellent addition to their set - very atmospheric and effective.

Excellent sound... excellent set... amazing gig!

Went to see The Damned at Durham on Sat 2nd December. Never seen them before live but have most of their albums.

Although it was a poor turnout crowdwise and a few cocks in the audience The Damned produced one of the most professional performances I've ever seen. Its the first band I've seen that are better live than the album.

Went to see Rancid at Newcastle a few weeks earlier and they were rubbish compared to The Damned. They also played a good mix old stuff Goth and some new fantastic gig will go again.
