I
have to say my review of the gig is a bit different from the other two.
This
was the most disappointing Damned gig I have been to, and I've been going to see
them since 1978. It's nothing to do with the lads, as they gave their best, as
usual, in their normal professional manner. It's the venue. This is the first
time I have been to the Glasgow Carling Academy and it is a crap venue. The ceiling's
too high, the hall is too long and narrow and the acoustics are shockingly bad.
On top of that the electrics were dodgy and seemed to affect the equipment of
all the bands taking part that night (Eugene Reynolds of The Rezillos looked
as if he was about to blow a fuse himself). Come back to the Edinburgh Liquid
Rooms soon guys to erase that bad memory!!!

s
part of the 'Carling in The Uk 30 years of punk' event as part of the current
tour, The Damned chaps didn't disappoint. Well apart from the short nature of
the set due to time slots for each band, and the notorious Glasgow curfew of having
to be finished for 11pm! Pinch wasn't a happy chappie!!!! Anyway,
the chaps duly tore into 'Wait for the Blackout' at a blistering pace with Dave
looking very dapper in his suit, and the Captain very resplendent in his sailor
outfit. Even Stu looked quite trendy in his 'Country & Western' style shirt!
The
crowd went suitably bonkers, and the rest of the set included 'Alone Again
or...', 'Ignite', 'History of the World', 'New Rose',
'Neat Neat Neat', 'Anti-Pope', a cracking rendition of 'Generals',
'Jet Boy, Jet Girl', 'Love Song', and finishing with the mighty
'Smash It Up'. Yes, a shortened set but, a cracker!
It
was my daughter Emma's first Damned gig, she was right at the front, and she was
blown away by finally seeing the legend that is The Damned 'Live'. I've got arms
like Popeye through keeping them outstetched around her at the crush barrier (as
she's only tiny!) but, it was worth it.
So,
that's it for 2006.... Here's hoping it won't be too long before the chaps are
back in Glasgow to entertain us a bit longer next time. Emma & I will be there!!!

Having
been to Newcastle Academy earlier this year and missing the gig at London, it
was nice to get away to somewhere new for another celebration of punk. Ill
keep this as succinct as possible.
Disappointed
to have missed GBH who must have performed very early.
Caught
most of The Meteors set where much beer was thrown. This meant that by the time
The Damned began, moving ones feet (let alone doing anything more exuberant)
was a near fatal experience but I dont think there were any casualties.
Just a few knocked heads and sore bums
from falling over I hasten to add.
Much
laughter was had from all sides; even DV cracked the odd smile (wow).
Im
not even going to try and remember the set list as I was a tad shitfaced but the
previous reviewer has certainly done a good job at jogging my memory.
Personally
speaking, the lovely people of Glasgow made this the best Damned gig to date.
Hello Al Fiendish. Oh, The Damned were alright as well. Had great fun just not
enough of it because before we knew it, Mr Sensible announced there was 8 minutes
left.
Photographs
taken by Barry, who found it difficult to get a good shot so I have heavily Photoshoped
some not bad ones and as nice as they are, the pictures of peoples arms and fingers
in the air have been deleted. Sorry, but its not my fault
.
So
we have seen you in Ireland, England and Scotland. Where to next I wonder? Hope
to see you again in the near future.
All
the best
Tara and Baz x
