Don't
know what to say quite about this one. Hmmmmm...
What
a trek. I knew the car was likely to be off road and that even if
wasn't - that I had to get to London the next day - tired. Also I
could see accommodation being a problem. Much looking on the net gave
me a best option of -
Set
out Thursday night with sleeping bag in tow. Train to London... overnight
coach (so hence sleep) to Leeds. Two hour wait Leeds then bus to Whitby
- 3 and a half hours without a loo! Debunked the bus at Pickering
to break the journey and took the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to
Grosmont. Grosmont to Whitby by train.
Did
some wandering looking at shops and sussing the venue and partaking
of a pub as the drizzle became heavier and my bags started to get
wet.
Anyways
- to the point I really want to make next... Weasel arrived Whitby
and gave me a call.. he was doing the job of stashing my bags for
the day. What could have been a long day mainly in my own company,
turned into a great day out with Weasel, wife, Chaz & GF (I'm
crap on names - Melissa?), and The Damned virgins (friends of Weasel).
These folks took me under their wing - we pubbed, nattered, ate, drank
tea! together and had a great gig. Mixed with Ellie & Paul etc
at gig (giving the others a break!) - more good company (don't think
we have met since Leeds 2 years ago have we?). Then Chaz put me up
in the warmth of the car for the night - even being cheery when woken
at 5 in the morning cause I needed to get outta the 2 door for a pee!!
... AND dropped me back at the bus in the morning! These folks are
the beez knees - Yorkshire hospitality at its best - thanz so much
folks.
Don't
no about a Goth Fest - more like a fetish wearing gathering!! My eyes
popped on many an occasion. BTW - how come it is unsafe to take bottles
into a gig - BUT YOUR ALLOWED TO TAKE A CUTLASS!!
The
set - was certainly different. I believe they picked the right set
for the right audience. However, as a regular Damned gig goer, I was
always waiting for that ooompphhh... that punch... as the tempo raises
and then lowers... and it was odd to watch a totally conservative(?)
set. As I say, not knocking it in any way.. they knew their audience
and adapted well. It goes to show... as Eloise had rapturous
applause - as I think you would expect with that audience. We also
had Shadow of Love - not a favourite of mine, but one that
I thought likely at this gig and the reason I particularly wanted
to go... as it gets played so rarely live.
Enough
of my wittering on... great fun.
