What
can I say, FanBloodyTastic!!!
It's
the 8th time that I've seen our 'old chums', and I would say the best
yet.
Cappy hobbled onto stage with Monty and a Zimmer frame, DV looked
all Leslie Phillips with his 'tache, suit, cravat and handkerchief
in top pocket. Very dapper, even Ding Dong!
It started with I Just Can't Be Happy Today, and Stu's base
made the floor vibrate. Proper Damned!
I
never saw them playing the Strawberries tour, so it was a real
treat to hear the brilliant Dozen Girls, Disco Man,
Generals, and Ignite.
DV
even sung a verse of Too Much To Dream during Ignite, mid song!
Monty was on top form, dancing like Leo Sayer on drugs. Pinch's drumming
was superb, Stu's base pounded all night, and Cappy and DV excelled,
laughing with and at eachother.
Everyone
looked like they were really enjoying themselves, and the music was
very 'tight'.
As it's Christmas, Sanity Clause was played, and it was good
to hear Nasty.
Top
songs for me were IJCBHT, Blackout, Dozen Girls
and History.
On my Christmas list was Limit Club and Idiot Box, but
perhaps that will be next year.........
As Cappy once said 'The Damned make a wonderful noise'.
Barbter
Given
the venue, it was entirely appropriate that The Damned were, metaphorically,
on fire.
On a bitterly cold night, the crowd was warmed up nicely with an excellent
and well-received support slot from local band The Death Valley
Riders, before Kitten, Missy and Mimi did their thing.
As for The Damned, this was a brilliant gig, with crowd and band alike
having a great time - especially DV, who took great amusement from
spotting a Paul Gray lookalike in the front row, and spent much of
the evening giving the said chap quizzical looks.
A great bit of crowd banter too when some punter shouted out "You
fat bastard!", to which DV laughingly responded something
along the lines of "Come on now, is that the best you can
think of to shout out?" At which point the punter immediately
yelled back "You thin c***!"
There was a really good atmosphere for the gig, and I'm pleased to
report that, as far as I can tell, not a single glass of beer was
hurled towards the stage, so well done Bournemouth.
It's been interesting to see how the set list has evolved during this
tour. This was my third Twisted Cabaret gig, and there has been a
different opening song each time. The encore was longer than usual
- with Sanity Clause included and sounding fantastic - and
this was probably an indication of how much the band was enjoying
it. The evening culminated with the lovely Kitten getting on stage
to provide some energetic dancing during Smash It Up.
